2014 NFL Draft 2nd & 3rd Rounds

Winners of the 2nd Day of the Draft from Friday Night

St. Louis - CB Lamarcus Joyner  & RB Tre Mason

St. Louis needed to go out and grab players who could take pressure off Sam Bradford. Since they got a LT to protect Bradford in the 1st round, they were freed up to look for some more impact players to put around Bradford. I love both of these picks, Joyner in the 2nd, Mason in the 3rd. Joyner is an absolute steal IMO. He has the tools to become a solid CB, and he is very needed in the NFC West, Let's be honest. Tre Mason will either be a great success, or a bust, no in between. I don't believe Mason was good enough to be drafted this year, but this is a smart pick to me. Go get a playmaker from the SEC, put him with his own LT, and see what could happen. The Rams nailed the second day of the Draft.

Philadelphia - WR Jordan Matthews & WR Josh Huff

Chip Kelly has the Eagles set up to become an Elite team next year. I was a little shocked when they didn't take a wide receiver in the 1st round, but i can see why they waited. They got two value receivers 50% off. Josh Huff, a dependable receiver out of Oregon, will come right back to the coach he started college with. Kelly will make him work in his system, especially with Nick FOles behind center. Jordan Matthews was good enough to get drafted in the late first round. He is a possession receiver that will catch the ball, even if he has to puke on the field after(actually happened b/c of concussion). This will be a guy that can get two feet down in the end zone as time expires. Great couple of draft picks.

Houston - TE C.J. Fiedorowicz, DT Louis Nix III & OG  Xavier Su'a-Filo

I can't believe i'm going to write this, but Louis Nix III (Notre Dame) is the only reason Houston is a winner. Don't get me wrong, the other two picks are solid players that fit the need of the Texans. But Nix has the potential to be one of the greatest steals of this decade. He is a massive DT who is a force down in the trenches. Not only did the Texans get a good player, they got the perfect guy to complete the DL. You're telling me that a team will have to face Nix III in the middle, not to mention  J.J. Watt and Jadeveon Clowney at the ends. All of them bull rushing at you. No thank you. I can't wait to see the Texans play next year.

Baltimore - DT Timmy Jernigan, S Terrence Brooks & TE Crockett Gillmore

Baltimore has been a consistently tough defensive team for almost two decades now. No surprise that they would take a couple defensive guys. They decided to take two guys off Natty Champ Florida State, which i have no problem with. Terrence Brooks is a great player who will fit right in with the Ravens. Safety was a huge need coming in to the draft, they no longer have Ed Reed. Big ol' Timmy Jernigan is another big guy used to being a force down low. Baltimore DL has been decimated in recent years, which is why i like this pick. The one problem i have with Jernigan is his conditioning. Once the 4th quarter started in the BCS Championship last year, he barely played because he was so winded. If he can work hard at being able to play the full 60 minutes, then i think he can be a successful run stopper in the NFL.

Oakland - QB Derek Carr & OG Gabe Jackson

Oakland finally made one pick that i agree with. Derek Car could have been taken in the first round, but i have no problem with him being taken in the second. I only watched one of is games last year, but i could tell he is something special. I know all the haters out there compare him to his brother, but he is not his brother, and he didn't get drafted by an expansion team that had yet to play a game. The Raiders just traded for Matt Schaub, someone Carr can sit behind for a year or two and learn from. No pressure, just learn. This is the perfect situation for Derek and the Raiders. Derek can ease into the league, while the Raiders can get a potential future QB with a low risk investment.

CHECK OUT MY NEW TAB

I JUST FINISHED MY NBA TAB WITH MY PLAYOFF PREDICTIONS, CHECK IT OUT UP THERE ^^^^^

ALSO, I AM CURRENTLY WORKING ON A COLLEGE FOOTBALL SECTION AS WELL AS A NFL & MLB SECTION WITH POWER RANKINGS, PLAYER OF THE WEEK, ETC.

2014 NFL DRAFT 1ST ROUND LOSERS

LOSERS

1. The Tennessee Titans - Taylor Lewan

Mike Munchak is no longer the coach of the Titans, Ken Wisenhunt got the job in the offseason.  What do the Titans need most? A PLAYMAKER! The Titans had a chance to draft several playmakers on either side of the ball, but they chose to use their 2014 #11 pick on an OFFENSIVE LINEMAN!? Are you serious? I could understand drafting an OL if we hadn't already done so last year. Not to mention we picked up a white guy, from Michigan, who has a sketchy past. I doubt Taylor Lewan stays a Titan for more than a couple years. Being a Tennessee Titans fan is so miserable. We had a chance to bring Johnny Football to Nashville! We needed some kind of running threat after the departure of Chris Johnson, but i imagine we take a RB tonight. Possibly Jeremy Hill, MAYBE Carlos Hyde(jury is still out for me)

2. The Pittsburg Steelers - Ryan Shazier

I don't even have any words for this pick. I have seen this guy play, and he is nothing special. The scouts say that his ability to find the ball and tackle is his best attribute right now. These scouts have lost their minds. He only had double digit tackles against teams which had terrible offenses. He is also a little small right now, he will need to bulk up some this offseason. But my complaint isn't with Ryan Shazier really, even though he did go to OSU. The Steelers had a great chance to snatch up a wide out, to get a 1st round guy super late. I don't see why they would draft a LB in the 1st round. The draft is littered with defensive players, not playmakers. The Steelers HAVE to pick up a WR in the rounds tonight.

3. The Detroit Lions - Eric Ebron

I'll be honest i didn't know a whole lot about this guy until i did some research after the draft last night. This guy can play without a doubt, but the Lions were't addressing their most important needs. They needed a WR, and they should have used the number 10 pick to take a big name guy. I understand why Ebron would work in the system, but it is a classic example of over drafting. Ebron would have been on the board when they took a pick in the 2nd round. The Lions need someone who will be a possession receiver, a guy like Wes Welker. If they had a solid slot receiver, along with the pass catching ability of their backs, they might be able to get deep in the playoff. The Lion will need to get some guys for the secondary in the 2nd and 3rd rounds tonight.

4. The Dallas Cowboys - Zach Martin

Jerry Jones was sitting in the perfect spot to shock the world and take Johnny Football, but I'm glad he didn't. I don't think Manziel would have been a good fit there, but Zach Martin just isn't the choice Jones should have made. Yes, the Cowboys needed the OL, but Dallas has been decimated on the defensive side of the ball. IMO they should have taken a CB, DL, or Safety. Mike Jenkins has been a bust (as I called), and he has been hurt. Bottom line, there were better ways to go, and for that, the Cowboys are a 1st round loser.

5. The Minnesota Vikings - Teddy Bridgewater & Anthony Barr

I don't believe Barr was a top 10 pick, i think Minnesota got nervous about which QB to take, saw that they could pick one later, and picked the easy way out with a defensive guy. Anthony Barr is an extremely good player, but again, we have a case of over drafting. Why take a guy in the top 10 like that, pay him all that money, and not be as sure about his ability as other players? The Vikings should have traded the pick for a 1st round pick next year. Minnesota decided to be the team to take Teddy Bridgewater. Bridgewater is a great player, though still unproven, but this is a terrible fit for him. The one problem scouts had with him was his arm strength and accuracy in the cold. Minnesota will be playing the next 2 seasons outdoors while their stadium is being constructed. Teddy will not be successful in a place that's colder than his alma mater.

CHECK OUT THE WINNERS OF THE 2nd AND 3rd ROUNDS LATER TONIGHT

2014 NFL DRAFT 1ST ROUND: 5 WINNERS

WINNERS

1. The Houston Texans & Jadeveon Clowney.

Clowney is by far the best player in the draft. A good enough reason to take him number 1 overall. I can already tell this is an unbelievably good fit. Clowney will have many veterans on the defensive side of the ball to teach him, but especially J.J. Watt. IMO, Watt is the best DE in the game. With all the knowledge Clowney will slurp up from J.J, he will have drive, the intensity, the motor that skeptics thought he could get. I want to apply for a change of fandom from the Titans to the Texans. One final thought...The Texans could easily snag a good QB

2. The Buffalo Bills & Sammy Watkins

Watkins is the best WR out of this years class. Sammy is a playmaker. He can get the ball from anywhere on the field, and potential score. He has great hands, good feet work, but his greatest attribute is his ability to deliver the hits to the defense and keep moving forward. Multiple times throughout the season last year, Sammy caught the ball within 5 yards of the LOS, delivered the hit, kept his feet moving, and scored. Overall great pick for a team who's second year QB needs help.

3. The New York Football Giants & Odell Beckham Jr.

I have followed OBJ since he stepped on LSU's campus. He is the definition of a possession receiver. He can catch the ball in traffic, deep, or by himself. He isn't going to hurt you, or turn the ball over, just give you first downs. What a great environment for OBJ to dive into. He gets to play with one of the best QB's in the NFL, Eli Manning. Eli will be able to mold OBJ into a true pro, and I predict OBJ makes a few pro bowls, but he will be in the league a long time as a reliable receiver.

4. The Kansas City Chiefs & Dee Ford

I watched this guy play a bunch of games last year. At first glance, Ford doesn't look like a playmaker. He played on a team where offense was the way to go. However, Dee was a bright spot on the defense throughout the year. He can hit you hard, but his ability to pass rush and disrupt a QB is top 3 in the draft. He is another one of those guys with a motor, he plays so hard, and always makes something happen. HE can be an anchor for a DL in the NFL. The Kansas City Chiefs needed this pick badly. The Chiefs had one of their best season ever last year, but got knocked out by the underachieving Colts. It was a miserable collapse on an epic level. All because their pass rush was thin and ineffective. Now that Ford joins the defense with anchor SS Eric Berry, these SEC boys should have success next year against most OL's.

5. The Carolina Panthers & Kelvin Benjamin

The final winner of the first round of the draft, but boy did the panthers get a diamond (that needs polishing). Kelvin is the size of a big TE. He can jump super high, and has the hands of an OBJ. Not only does Kelvin have good hands, but he's a guy you can depend on late in the game. Jameis Winston learned this lesson last year. What more can you want out of a WR than great hands, high jump, and HUGE. As far as the fit with the Panthers, i think Kelvin is perfect for this team. A great weapon that Cam Newton desperately needs after Steve Smith left. If Cam can eventually lean on Benjamin to catch it when need, the Panthers will be on the track.

Tomorrow I will do a losers version of the NFL draft 1st round, and then i'll do the same for each round after! CHECK IT OUT!

HEYYY THERRREE

I WOULD LOVE TO HAVE SOME PEOPLE COMMENT AND START DEBATE ON MY BLOG! GIIVE ME A FOLLOW ON TWITTER @HOLLISOLIVERIII AND SHARE MY BLOG WITH EVERYONE YOU KNOW! I JUST WANNA SHARE KNOWLEDGE WITH ANYONE WHO WILL READ

WHY WE SHOULD MODEL OUR MORALS AFTER THE NATIVE AMERICANS

NATIVE AMERICANS WERE BETTER PEOPLE THAN US. THAT'S THE PLAIN AND SIMPLE TRUTH! SORRY IF YOU'RE OFFENDED BY THAT, BUT I REALLY DON'T CARE!

The Native Americans had a set of commandments. I found them for the first time on Twitter, what would normally be a cultural wasteland, but on this particular day, i was presented with a gem! For everyone who doesn't know, here they are:

1. TREAT THE EARTH AND ALL THAT DWELL THERON WITH RESPECT

2. REMAIN CLOSE TO THE GREAT SPIRIT

3. SHOW GREAT RESPECT FOR YOUR FELLOW BEINGS

4. WORK TOGETHER FOR THE BENEFIT OF ALL HUMANKIND

5. GIVE ASSISTANCE AND KINDNESS WHEREVER NEEDED

6. DO WHAT YOU KNOW TO BE RIGHT

7. LOOK AFTER THE WELL-BEING OF MIND AND BODY

8. DEDICATE A SHARE OF YOUR EFFORTS TO THE GREATER GOOD

9. BE TRUTHFUL AND HONEST AT ALL TIMES

10. TAKE FULL RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOUR ACTIONS

WOW! Can you believe that we ran off, killed, and stole land from these people? This unique, caring, loving, kind, happy, respectful society was destroyed because a few Europeans decided that their wants were more important than human lives. Possibly one of the worst tragedies on Earth, in the history of mankind. A black spot on Europeans and newly pronounced "Americans". Manifest destiny we call it. This ridiculous over pursuit of more land, wealth, and material things. O how cruel  we can be to each other just because we think we are smarter. Europeans came over, and saw the way Native Americans lived, and denounced it as "primitive". Very similar to racism towards African-Americans in the 60's, we all know there is nothing scientific about it. Europeans may have been more advanced, because they brought guns, germs, and steel with them, but the Native Americans were satisfied with what they had. They had lived in our United States since the end of the last ice age when the land bridge was crossed. We just uprooted them for no reason.

NOT ONE OF YOU can tell me these aren't good, productive ways to live. The Native Americans found a way to live with the Earth, we have just found a way to destroy it. If we could get more people to consider these commandments, then we would live in a better place. My goal is to share knowledge. Knowledge of anything and everything that seems interesting to me. Share this with friends, family, whoever! Maybe we could change a few lives in the process!

MUCH LOVE

Donald Sterling, My Take

I wanna start this off by saying that Donald Sterling deserved every bit of the punishment he was given. He was proven a racist, and someone in the public eye just cannot get caught saying those remarks without suffering severe consequences. However, nothing about the situation made sense. He had been an owner in the NBA for decades, and he was known for being cheap more so than anything. But later, we found out that he had a history of being a racist. Multiple times! How does a man of his character continue owning an NBA team when its an ethnic league? It says a lot about the people who knew about his racism. Blame should be thrown on Sterling without a doubt, but i think that more people should have stood up or at least got the attention of the NBA. This is a lesson for sure, but Adam Silver opened a pandora's box. IMO, owners, players, GM's, coaches, etc. are now susceptible to losing their job because of a private remark obtained illegally. Sterling's mistress should absolutely be prosecuted by California for taping that conversation. In no way am i trying to back Sterling, I just believe justice should be applied to all. This was a clear invasion of privacy because all of us are entitled to our own opinion, no matter how ignorant. It was wrong of the mistress to tape the conversation. But the most screwed up part of it all, the mistress said that Sterling was not a racist, he was a good person, and she was his best friend all on the interview with Barbara Walters. Hopefully this black eye on the NBA will teach other organizations about the dangers of giving rich men a pass. We don't have to kid ourselves. The more money you have, the easier it is to pay people off, and thus, influence them. It's LIFE. But maybe this will give people the courage to stand up and defend their rights...

Thanks to anyone reading!

COSMOS & Neil deGrasse Tyson Challenge the World

I am absolutely obsessed with anything related to the history of space or our Earth! Cosmos might possibly be my favorite series ever. The amount of knowledge gained is priceless throughout every single minute of the show. Even though I have learned a good amount about biology from my time as a biology major, Neil Tyson explains knowledge unlike any other public figure i've witnessed. He makes all the miserable aspects of biology become absolute gold. Not sure how he does it....Maybe it's the voice...Yup. Tyson is straight up, and tells the entire truth for people to understand. An entire generation of young people, much younger than me, will understand the most basic facts of our world, our lives. I wish i could have seen this as a young teen. It would have made a world of a difference in how I live my life. I was never a sheltered boy, but true knowledge has been hard to find. Fox is doing an amazing public service by supporting this TV series. Hopefully my generation and younger will get the picture, who knows, maybe even a few older ones too. We are at a fork in the road in human history. Either we follow our parents and grandparents ways and continue to pollute the Earth, killing all life on the planet, or we can, as a human race figure out a peaceful, logical way to save the Earth. I say save the Earth, but the Earth doesn't need saving, it will keep on living. I believe that somewhere, some boy or girl is watching COSMOS, and in the future they will figure out a way. I just hope that the education system doesn't destroy their dream first. But that's a topic for another time.

Until next time!

Some dreams come true

What's up internet?! I'm Hollis Oliver Mclain III (call me Hollis or Corner Pocket), and as I type these words, some of my dreams are coming true. Ever since I found out I wouldn't be playing professional sports for a living, I have dreamed of covering The University of Tennessee's Football program in some form. I have always had a strong opinion about my VOLS, but this month, I finally get to express my opinions to the world. I just got a job as a Tennessee Volunteer sports writer for College Football Roundtable and morethanafan.net!!! If any of you got to know me, you would know that i'm ridiculously excited and thankful. You would also know I have strong opinions, and i like to debate them. I am also super open-minded, I encourage all opinion's, and I welcome debate and criticism. Now that I have a gig on the internet, I figured I'd get my own little place to express all my opinions, not just football. I have wanted to have a blog and podcast site forever, and i'm so thankful that I now have the opportunity to do so. I love sports, LOVE sports, but that only takes up a fraction of my mind. I am obsessed with space, history, music, movies, pretty much anything awesome. I rarely speak about political or religious views unless i think it will be productive to conversation. If you wanna see a blog that attempts to expand your mind, and make you think outside the box, then you wanna read this blog! I look forward to people commenting and getting involved in my blog and podcasts(coming soon)

Peace Out
